Meet Mike

Mike has served as Trustee for the Ventura County Board of Education for the last 4 years. He and his wife have been residents of Newbury Park for the past 20 years. Their youngest son went through the CVUSD system. Mike has been passionately involved in education using his skills to advocate for increased student funding, enhanced career technical education opportunities and safeguarding taxpayer money. In the private sector, Mike rose to senior management positions overseeing large budgets and quality control in pharmaceutical factories around the world. In 2018, he was elected to the Ventura County Board of Education.  He has led the effort to appoint a new Ventura County Superintendent of Schools, collaborated with statewide peers to push for increased state funding for Career Education, and backed new countywide programs to improve for Social Emotional Learning and student mental health.

Mike worked his way through college and graduated from the University of Massachusetts. After working as a high school teacher, he spent 10 years directing in the theatre. He created a theatre school in Paris, using the theatre to teach English as a foreign language. After transitioning from the theatre, Mike held various roles in communications, professional development and quality improvement.

For the last 12 years of his professional career, Mike worked as Senior Director, Operational Excellence and Strategy at Baxter International.  Helping manage a $2 billion dollar budget, his focus was on professional development, quality, continuous improvement and strategy. These experiences make him uniquely qualified to serve on the County Board of Education.

For the last several years Mike has volunteered extensively. He has been a board member for the Conejo Valley Unitarian Universalists. He organized and led a conference in Washington DC to advocate for greater access to education and he has advocated locally for greater funding in education. He is now Co-Chair of the Social Justice Fund for Ventura County where Mike has overseen more than $50,000 in grants primarily to Ventura county youth organizations improving access to, and equity in, education.

Mike is a proven leader. His diverse experience with large organizations, education and nonprofits enables him to be an effective voice for children, parents and teachers. He will fight so that every child gets a safe and excellent education.
